Across courthouse squares and historic main streets, neighbors and visitors gather for free celebrations filled with twinkling lights, festive music, and simple joys. From carriage rides and carolers to live nativities and parades, each town offers its own heartwarming way to share the magic of the holidays — where community, tradition, and wonder still come together beneath the glow of a Christmas tree.

McMinnville (Warren County)
Downtown McMinnville glows with holiday cheer, transforming into a winter wonderland where laughter fills the air and every corner sparkles with festive lights. The season begins with the enchanting Flip the Switch and Small Business Saturday on November 29, followed by the joyful Christmas in the Park on December 2 and the beloved Christmas Parade on December 6. Families can skate on the downtown ice rink and enjoy Main Street’s dazzling décor, with more celebrations throughout December, including the toe-tapping Dailey & Vincent Christmas Tour and the magical Hark at the Park.

Sparta (White County)
On December 13, Sparta’s Christmas Bells celebration brings the community together for a day of light and song. The festivities begin with a parade and continue with the lighting of the community tree, live nativities, choirs, carolers, carriage rides, Santa visits, and treats of hot chocolate and cookies. Children delight in bounce houses and games, while Frosty’s story plays under the stars—creating an evening of joy and togetherness.

Granville (Jackson County)
Granville becomes a storybook village for its Season of Wonder (Nov. 14–Dec. 31). Visitors can explore the Festival of Trees, admire vintage toys, and marvel at whimsical gingerbread houses. The holiday calendar features the Mayberry Christmas Dinner Theater, Bluegrass Christmas Shows, and Country Christmas with concerts, a parade, and children’s activities. From pancakes with Santa to tea with Mrs. Claus, Granville is where holiday nostalgia comes to life.

Livingston (Overton County)
Livingston’s Square sparkles during Christmas in the Country on November 28 and December 5, with more festivities on December 13 leading up to the annual parade. The Courthouse Plaza and surrounding streets glow with over 30 live decorated Christmas trees. Families can visit with Santa and the Grinch or skate on the downtown ice rink, open every Friday and Saturday through the New Year.

Cookeville (Putnam County)
Christmas on the Square (Nov. 29, 2–5 PM) fills Downtown Cookeville with free family fun—ornament making, bounce houses, carolers, cocoa, cider, train rides, and photos with Santa. The Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 PM promises a sprinkle of Christmas magic, complete with a gentle snowfall. The first 500 guests receive commemorative ornaments and shopping totes, making this celebration a new tradition.

Smithville (DeKalb County)
On December 6, Smithville’s Christmas on the Square & Live Windows (5:30–8 PM) features a magical display of living holiday scenes in storefront windows, following the downtown Christmas Parade. Santa will be on site as visitors shop late and enjoy the charm of the nearby Festival of Trees, with donations helping brighten Christmas for children in need.
